The letter
Every month, your child receives a letter printed on beautiful paper that tells a legend from the other side of the world or a great ballet, with their name throughout the text.
Who are we?
An adventure that begins with a letter…
Every month, an envelope arrives addressed to your child. Inside, a letter from Snail, the travelling snail. Depending on the subscription you choose, his letter reveals a legend from the country where he has stopped, or tells the story of a great ballet he watched from the wings of a theatre.
There are two collections: world legends and great ballets.
Every letter is available in French, English and Spanish, as a 3- or 6-month subscription.
The heart of Escargot Post
No one knows where he comes from. Some say they spotted him on a windowsill in Kyoto, at the hour when foxes change shape. Others claim they saw him on the highest balcony of a theatre in Saint Petersburg, at every performance of Swan Lake.
What we do know is that he moves slowly. A snail doesn’t cross a country: he lingers in it. He sits by the fire while a grandmother tells a legend, tastes the dish he is offered, asks why that mountain bears that name. Then, when night falls, he takes out his paper and writes.
He writes to your child. He calls them by their name, which appears on page after page, and takes them into a marvelous story, as if he were bringing them along.
The subscriptionsThe journey
Japan and its messenger foxes. Ethiopia and the birth of coffee. Each letter takes your child to a country they don’t know yet, through a legend passed down for centuries. The country’s history, customs and landscapes slip into the story without ever interrupting it. There is no lesson to learn: you follow a traveller, and you remember everything.
The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Coppélia… Snail tells your child the stories that have been danced for more than a century on the world’s greatest stages. The story follows the ballet scene by scene, and prepares the child to recognise it the day they see it, or hear it, for the first time.
Every letter is written in French, English or Spanish, chosen when you order. A family can read in the language closest to its heart, keep up a language spoken at home, or support the learning of a foreign language through a story the child can’t wait to receive.
In the envelope
First there is the envelope with their name on it, spotted in the letterbox, then the pleasure of opening it themselves and discovering what’s inside. Then comes the reading, alone or aloud as a family, and often the urge to go further: finding the country on a map, listening to the ballet’s music, borrowing a book from the library, asking to cook the recipe on Sunday.
Every month, your child receives a letter printed on beautiful paper that tells a legend from the other side of the world or a great ballet, with their name throughout the text.
A recipe, fun facts, a one-day itinerary and a portrait for each legend; the story of its creation and a portrait of its author for each ballet.
A word search, a quiz, colouring pages with questions, and stickers to keep a record of the journey.
The person behind Escargot Post
Snail travels. I go with him.
My name is Claire, and I am an insatiable reader. As a child, I devoured fairy tales, myths and adventure novels. As an adult, I kept reading everything: the great classics as well as travel guides, old letters as well as opera programmes.
I love paper, letters, archives, and above all the stories we pass on: the legends only locals know, the stories dance tells without words. This love of words and cultures led me to diplomacy, and to more than a decade abroad, where every country had its stories to share.
When my daughter was born, I wanted to pass on to her this joy of reading and discovering. I looked for subscriptions by post, but the ones that existed then were all in English. So I created Escargot Post, first for her, then for other children, and for everyone who still believes a story can open up the world.
Escargot Post is more than just a story once a month: it also comes with plenty of activities to keep children busy until the next letter.
